"Should I choose the rugged durability of Granite or the timeless luxury of Marble?" This is the most common question we hear at our Patna showroom.
1. Durability & Hardness
Granite is an igneous rock formed from cooling magma. It is incredibly hard, resistant to scratches, and can withstand high heat. For Indian kitchens where we use heavy utensils and hot pressure cookers, Granite is the champion.
Marble, on the other hand, is a metamorphic rock. It is softer and more porous. While it handles heat reasonably well, it is prone to scratches (etching) from acidic foods like lemon or vinegar.
2. Aesthetics & Appearance
- Granite: Has a speckled, granular look. It comes in darker shades (Black Galaxy, Tan Brown) which are great for hiding stains.
- Marble: Known for its "veining" patterns. Statuario or Italian marble offers a clean, bright, and luxurious look that granite simply cannot match.
3. Maintenance in Patna Climate
Given the water hardness in some areas of Patna, dark Granite is easier to maintain as it doesn't show water spots easily. Marble requires sealing every 6-12 months to prevent staining from turmeric (haldi) or oil.
Our Verdict
If you want a rough-and-tough countertop for daily heavy cooking, go with Granite. If you want a show-stopper floor or a bathroom vanity that screams luxury, choose Italian Marble.
